21 Ways To Be A Better Christian
Written by Regina "Tigger" McDougall

Something i had found on the internet  at the link below to help you wiht your Christian walk in life and to make it grow!!
http://www.beliefnet.com/JesusDaily/Features/21-Ways-to-be-a-Better-Christian.aspx

1. Get Creative:
Write. Paint. Sing. Invent. Experiment with your creativity even if you feel you have none,
and do it in the name of God. Why? Well, for one thing, to be creative pays homage to God’s
boundless creativity. For another, you may find God has given you gifts you didn’t even
know you had.

1 Peter 4:10-11

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts.
Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as
though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others?
Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring
glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

2. Get Involved:
Too many Christians look at their church as a weekly appointment: They clock in, clock out
and go home—sometimes bemoaning how lifeless the place seems. But churches are only as
vibrant as their congregants. The Apostle Paul told us we’re all parts of Christ’s body,
and as such we all are asked to perform a specific task within it. Find out where your gifts
can best serve your local church.

Ephesians 4:11-13

11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets,
the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s
people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue
until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be
mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

3. Read the Bible:
Delving into the Word of God is perhaps the most critical aspect of growing as a Christian.
Taking a little time each day to read the Bible can both educate and inspire, and it will
help you center your focus on what’s most important.

Phlilppians 1:8-10

8 God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.
9 I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in
knowledge and understanding. 10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that
you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.

Psalm 119:9-11
9 How can a young person stay pure?
      By obeying your word.
10 I have tried hard to find you—
don’t let me wander from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

4. Attend A Different Church:
This doesn’t mean you should switch churches: Rather, just see how other Christians honor God.
Check out a charismatic service. Visit a Greek Orthodox church. The diversity within Christianity
is pretty fascinating, and seeing how other folks worship can help you understand other Christians
more—and help you appreciate their practices and your own.

 Romans 16:14-16

14 Give my greetings to Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers and
sisters[d] who meet with them. 15 Give my greetings to Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his
sister, and to Olympas and all the believers[e] who meet with them. 16 Greet each other in
Christian love.[f] All the churches of Christ send you their greetings.

Ephesians 1:22-23

22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things
for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by
Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

5. Take A Walk:
There’s no better way to remind yourself of God’s gifts than surrounding yourself with the
most spectacular and sublime of them. Walk down the beach, take a hike in the mountains, or
just spend some time in a nearby park, taking time to look at God’s wonders, both big and
small.

Psalm 8:3-4

3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?[a]

6. Volunteer:
Serve at a soup kitchen. Teach underprivileged children how to read. Volunteer online.
Give someone the most precious gift you have: Your time. By serving others, you mimic Jesus’
own heart and convey His love—and learn just how truly rewarding volunteering can be.
(Don’t know to start? Tech Mission can help.)

Acts 9:35-37

36 There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas[a]). She was always
doing kind things for others and helping the poor.

Proverbs 14:31

31 Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker,
but helping the poor honors him.
Proverbs 31:19-21
19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
for everyone has warm[a] clothes.

7. Read Christian Thinkers:
For 2,000 years, some of history’s brightest minds have tackled the prickly paradoxes of the
Christian faith. A trip through the words of Augustine, Aquinas, C.S. Lewis and many others
can be educational, entertaining, and—every once in a while—mind blowing.

2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17 NLT

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us
realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.
17 It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God
wants us to do.

8. Stretch Yourself:
God never intended us to get too comfortable in this life. To become the person who God wants
us to be, we must always look for new challenges—opportunities to learn important lessons that
we can put into practice later on. It’s not easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.

John 16:32-33
32 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his
own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. 33 I have told
you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and
sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

9. Keep a Journal:
A record of your thoughts, feelings and actions can become an important guide in your spiritual
walk. And, if you look back on your journals from years past, you’ll probably be amazed at how
much you’ve grown.

Psalm 139:15-17

15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
   Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
17 How precious are your thoughts about me,[a] O God.
      They cannot be numbered!

10. Study the Saints:
For nearly 2,000 years, the Catholic Church has held up a few remarkable Christians as examples
for the rest of us. And, while many denominations reject the idea of “sainthood,” they, too,
find role models from the pages of history. Some of these saints—official or not—are chosen
for how they lived, others for how they died. Regardless, their stories can encourage us
through our own struggles and push us into a deeper understanding of God.

11. Exercise:
The Apostle Paul wrote that the Christian's body is a temple, and exercise keeps that temple
in good repair. But more importantly, perhaps, a good 30-minute workout can help clear your
mind of everyday flotsam and allow you to focus on spiritual things.

1 Peter 1:13-14

13 So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that
will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s
obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires.
You didn’t know any better then.

12. Participate In Bible Study:
Beginning with Jesus and His disciples, Christianity has always been a communal faith. We’re
meant to search for God together. By sharing insights, you build on each other’s knowledge – and maybe help each other through tough patches, too.

Joshua 1:7-9

7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you.
Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be
successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on
it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you
prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be
afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

13. Vote:
Christianity is not just communal: It’s about community. A spin through the New Testament
shows that the earliest Christians were concerned with sickness, poverty and the issues of
the day. As such, we’re called to be involved in the world around us, and in democracies that
means voting—regardless of your political affiliations. When you pull the lever, be mindful
that it’s not just your civic duty, but your Christian one, as well.

Exodus 18:19-21
19 Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you.
You should continue to be the people’s representative before God, bringing their disputes to
him. 20 Teach them God’s decrees, and give them his instructions. Show them how to conduct
their lives. 21 But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and
hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.

Acts 1:23-26
23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias.
24 Then they all prayed, “O Lord, you know every heart. Show us which of these men you have
chosen 25 as an apostle to replace Judas in this ministry, for he has deserted us and gone
where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and Matthias was selected to become an apostle
with the other eleven.

14. Give to Charity:
God calls us to be His hands and feet, but let’s face it: We can’t be everywhere.
But through our finances, we can make God’s love felt across the street or across the globe.
There are hundreds of ministries and charities out there doing some tremendous work.
Do some research through Charity Navigator and make a long-term donation commitment to an
organization that's making a real difference.

Ephesians 4:28

28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then
give generously to others in need.

15. Make Time For Devotions:
It can be tough to carve out time for devotions, but spending a few minutes each morning
with God’s Word (and a quality guide) can make a huge difference in how you feel about—and
spend—your day. Plus, there are lots of books, tapes and even web sites that make it
comparatively easy. Beliefnet’s guide to the best devotionals can help you find one that
will work for you.

16. Do A Prayer Walk:
Some evangelical and charismatic churches ask their congregants to spend time walking
through their cities, praying over schools, churches, and entire neighborhoods. While this
form of prayer warfare may not fit in everyone’s theology, praying over your community,
block-by-block, is a great reminder that everyone in it is God’s creation, and they are
worthy of our attention, love—and prayer.

Acts 6:2-6

2 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend
our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. 3 And so, brothers, select
seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them
this responsibility. 4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”
5 Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and
the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch
(an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). 6 These seven were presented to the apostles,
who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them.

17. Spend Time with Family:
God likes it when we enjoy His gifts, and no gift is as precious as our families.
Take a long walk with your daughter. Toss a football with your son. Call up your parents.
Take your spouse out to dinner. When we make the people closest to us happy, we’re showing
God’s face to them—and nothing could be more important.

Phillipians 2:1-2

1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love?
Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?
2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one
another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

18. Take A Trip:
You don’t have to go to Jerusalem to get a better appreciation of God. He’s everywhere we go:
We see His power in the Pacific Ocean, His majesty in the Great Plains, His artistry in
Pennsylvania farm country. And, once you’re through being awed, visit a place that’s crying out
for God’s mercy, too: You won’t need to go far to see places and people in need of God. Think
about ways you can help wherever you go.

19. Listen To Christian Music:
Nothing touches our souls like music does, which helps explain why music has been such an
important part of the faith from the very beginning. From Bach and Handel to Holy Hip Hop,
Christian music could fill a couple dozen iPods—and the quality in most genres keeps getting
better. Beliefnet’s Gospel Soundcheck can help you get started.

1 Samuel 16:15-17

15 Some of Saul’s servants said to him, “A tormenting spirit from God is troubling you.
16 Let us find a good musician to play the harp whenever the tormenting spirit troubles you.
He will play soothing music, and you will soon be well again.”

20. Forgive Someone:
It’s perhaps one of the hardest things we’re called to do as Christians. When we’ve been
hurt, the last thing we want to do is let go of that hurt: We want to punish the one who hurt
us. But in so doing, we wind up punishing ourselves. Christ calls us to unclench our fists
and forgive those who persecute us. And, if we do so, we learn that forgiveness isn’t so much
to help them, but us.

Mattew 6:14-15

14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with
tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for
each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you,
so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all
together in perfect harmony.

21. Be Still:
God can speak in life's earthquakes and whirlwinds, but more often, He speaks in a still
small voice—a voice that can often be all but overwhelmed by modern society's bustle and
noise.Take time every day to be quiet and... listen. You might be surprised by what you hear.

Psalm 46:8-10
8 Come, see the glorious works of the LORD:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.
9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
      He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

Life's Stepping Stones
Written by Regina "Tigger" McDougall
Apr 23, 2011 at 12:30 AM

From the time when we’re born till we die there are things in life we and learn to do to shape us.
Sometimes they’re good and sometimes they’re not, these make life an adventure and are also seen as a
stepping stone in life. At a certain point when we’re babies we learn to eat, crawl, walk, talk and play.
When you’re a kid you go to school for the first time or starting a new grade, you learn to ride a bike,
learn to read and write, difference between a clean and messy room, what you can do and what not to do, the art of punishment. When you get to your teen years you head into junior high/high highschool and face the
challenges it brings there as well as the good times. Some other stepping stones that could be in your life
if you choose them are getting a job, learning to drive, getting a car and understanding things that go along
with that, graduating school, moving out, some get married and start a family. As you get older you’ll see many things in life that can become a stepping stone. Some are more extreme than others, some are happy ones and some are not, but they help us learn and grow in our daily lives.

At some point in our lives some people choose to be saved and walk the Christian walk. That’s another
big and most important stepping stone in life. When we become a Christian we are born again in the spirit
and we begin our journey with Jesus. We go to church, attend bible studies or youth groups, Christian events, even the things we read and listen to that will help us grow our relationship with God, if it’s of course a good influence eg. the Bible, Christian music. Sometimes another huge stepping stone in life mostly for Christians is telling someone else about God. Sometimes it can be easy and sometimes it can be hard. He always answers us and guides us, and sometime when we go through things that are hard in life and in our Christian walk it build us up and helps us grow. It’s not always going to be perfect all the time, sometimes we fall and sin, but we know we can be forgiven for our faults when we ask. Having a relationship with God helps us to trust in Him and have hope that the things we do in life we would consider Him to help us get through the day.

Psalms 37:23-24 says this
23 The LORD directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
24 Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the LORD holds them by the hand.

Jesus had many stepping stones and adventures in His life here on Earth as well. He learned to walk and talk,
he faced challenges every day. Such as going without food or in the desert for 40 days and nights, He was challenged to be tempted by the devil to eat and forget spending time with God.

Matthew 4:1-4
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
to be tempted there by the devil.
2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.
3 During that time the devil[a] came and said to him, “If you are
the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,
‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”

Even challenges in spreading the message too as he got older. Sometimes our stepping stones can be hard,
Jesus had it even harder when He had to be arrested and beaten and crucified. Sacrificing Himself for us was I would think is a huge stepping stone for Him. I’m sure there were times Jesus wondered why He had to go through some of the hardest times in His life. Through all of it God was with Him and He is with us too as we make stepping stones and paths in life, hopefully we make them with Him as we make them with our friends.

  Proverbs 3:5-7
 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
